The skies of downtown Barrie erupted with colours Friday night with the first-ever Barrie drone show. Over 200 brightly coloured drones turned the night sky into a canvas to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Air Force. The event helped kick off the 2024 Barrie Airshow Weekend alongside a free concert at Meridian Place. Spectators were treated to a show featuring the rich history of the RCAF, with drones taking the shape of the multiple aircraft that have contributed to 100 years of the Royal Canadian Air Force. From propeller planes to modern-day fighter jets, the colourful drones dazzled spectators all along Barrie’s spectacular waterfront and proved itself to be a must-see show.
The 2024 Barrie Air Show entertained thousands over the weekend with an incredible display celebrating 100 years of the Royal Canadian Air Force. People were entertained by an array of airplanes showing off the history of the Royal Canadian Air Force, from World War 2 aircraft to modern-day CF-18 fighter jets, there was something for every type of aviation enthusiast. The show, headlined by the always-popular Canadian Forces Snowbirds, proved to be a smash hit, with people all over the area taking to the shore of Kempenfelt Bay to enjoy the event over the two-day period.
Opening with the Canadian Armed Forces SkyHawks Parachute Team, people were treated to a colourful performance showcasing the ability and talent of Canada’s Armed Forces as multiple members parachuted down onto Barrie’s waterfront with flags celebrating the centennial anniversary of the Royal Canadian Air Force. The audience was then entertained with vintage aircraft flying the skies of downtown Barrie, showing the abundant history that the RCAF has and will continue to build upon in the future.
